We began doing business with a customer that has numerous manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout the United States. We became aware that their freight costs were becoming an immense burden, especially when coupled with the cost of doing business in a steel related industry.
We began to gather data characterizing their shipping patterns. Proper analysis lead to a recommendation to consolidate frequent, smaller quantity shipments into higher volume, less frequent shipments to take advantage of bulk freight savings. To further assist this customer, Hastings Machine Company also studied the impact of shipping directly to nearby geographical regional facilities. Direct shipments within a specified radius of the Hastings Machine Company plant saved this customer even more money. Consolidated higher volume shipments allowed Hastings Machine Company to increase run quantities to better amortize overall costs and realize even more savings for our customer.
